North Yorkshire is a particularly popular holiday destination due to its bustling cities and beautiful countryside.

You will be spoilt for choice with the variety of Yorkshire hotels and guesthouses in the area. Luxurious and stylish five star boutique hotels are an option if you are looking for true indulgence and relaxation. The accommodation in this county is of a very high quality and you will not have to travel far to find hotels which provide plasma screen TVs, satellite and fitness rooms, for your convenience.

Alternatively, there are plenty of family-run inns and guesthouses full of charm and character, with individually decorated rooms and friendly service. Many of them give you some insight into the history of the area including converted Victorian villas, stately royal manors and ex coaching inns.

Yorkshire hotels are able to provide for many dietary restrictions including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free as well as specific allergies if the hotel management is made aware in advance. However, if you like to stay independent whilst on holiday, you can choose apartments with kitchenettes so that you can stay in the area on a self-catering basis. Children are also very welcome at many of the hotels with family rooms available if necessary.

For visitors who are in Yorkshire on business, you can find hotels that cater well for the modern business traveller with free Wi-Fi internet access and meeting rooms and some even have conference rooms available.

There is plenty to keep you busy in this area. The surrounding countryside has been named 'God's Own Country' and it is easy to see why. The North York Moors Park, just west of Whitby and Scarborough, offers up some stunning views of untouched, beautiful coast and moorland. The most popular activities here are walking, cycling and horse riding where you can take in the scenery and explore the park at your own pace.

The North Yorkshire coast has some spectacular beaches too. Scarborough's Victorian coastline gives visitors a glimpse of seaside holidays of the past and Whitby has a long maritime history to discover. As well as Scarborough and Whitby, there are a number of other blue flag beaches on the coastline here including Bridlington Beaches, Hornsea Beach, Withernsea Beach and Filey Beach. These beautiful coastal locations are well worth visiting and are a popular destination for holidaymakers.

Yorkshire has a vibrant history to discover and York is one of the best places to explore it. A Danish Army of Vikings (the Great Heathen Army) invaded this area in 866 AD and renamed it Jorvik. This became the capital city of the Danish Kingdom of the same name, which covered not only York but much of Southern Northumbria as well. Today, the Jorvik Viking Centre stands in York and draws a large number of visitors who are keen to explore York's rich Viking history. The centre features a number of interactive exhibits including a realistic reconstruction of the Viking streets of 1,000 years ago, complete with sights, sounds and smells of the age.

York is also home to the York Dungeon with vivid exhibits of the chaos wrought by the looting and pillaging by the Vikings, as well as the history of the area going back 2,000 years.

North Yorkshire is a great location for shopping. York is known for its elegant cobbled streets filled with trendy stores. In contrast, Whitby has plenty of smaller boutiques offering locally produced goods like jewellery and food. Harrogate is famous for its designer shops and big high street names and is a real shoppers paradise.

This area is a great place for a holiday with so many great attractions and beautiful Yorkshire hotels to provide the perfect retreat. From shopping to lying on a beach, this county has so much to offer any visitor, whether you have a young family, are an older couple or even a business traveller. You can count on Yorkshire to provide a fun and affordable holiday destination all year round.
